Dress Your Dog in Cashmere

The latest fashion accessory for anyone is of course an accessorized pet. Instead of asking yourself why this trend has started, perhaps you should just accept it and have fun dressing your pet. Maybe you have considered new Gucci for your pet, but have you considered cashmere?

Many pet stores and designer clothes stores are feeding this trend with many accessories. You can find bowties, trinkets and even real jewelry items to dress your dog in. They create fleece shirts and cashmere sweaters for dogs. As the interest of dog clothes grows, so does the options and designers are constantly working on new designs to please your canine friend.

While obsessing over the cuteness of these outfits is fun to relish at, the price tag can sometimes not be. Cashmere for dogs can reach hundreds of dollars. It can cost as much to dress your dog in cashmere as it would to purchase an argyle cashmere sweater for yourself!

Don’t panic yet. I know that you treasure you dog and that kind of sweater can seem a bit too pricey. Maybe instead, you could do something that is meaningful for both you and your dog and even less expensive. The solution? Create a cashmere sweater for your dog.

Now obviously you do not have to take the tiny cashmere fabric and start knitting a sweater for your dog, you can improvise. Just use an old cashmere sweater, perhaps one that you never wear or your grandparents forgot they had. This would be perfect for a hand-me-down sweater for your dog!

Before you try to guess how you should cut the sweater to fit your dog, you will probably want to take measurements of your dog like a tailor would if you were to buy a dress. You need to determine how long the sweater needs to be, so measure the neckline to the rump. Then you want to measure the girth of the dog’s chest and belly. After that, just make an educated guess of where the leg holes will be positioned.

If you have a small dog, then you can make a great turtleneck out of the wrist part of an old cashmere sweater. You can even get creative with it by sewing in the trimming of feathers, leather, or even faux fur. If you have some flashy buttons, beads or rhinestone then you may want to add that to the outfit to give it a nice personal touch.

The beauty of creating your own sweater is that you can coordinate outfits together. Imagine walking in the park with your dog and you matching like an identical pair. If you have another sweater like it then that would be great, but if not, you now have an excuse to go shopping around to find one! You could check a local used-clothing bargain store or ebay and find what you are looking for. All it takes is a little imagination and care to create a personalized cashmere sweater for your dog.
